ALLAN CORFIELD STRUCTURES

Allan Corfield Structures (ACS) was initially established in early 2021 to to provide structural engineering services to Allan Corfield Architects (ACA) clients. Led by our Technical Director, Chartered Structural Engineer and SER Certifier David Gallagher, ACS now offers a market leading service for both ACA & external clients, inc a number of top Architects & MMC kit suppliers.

Since inception ACS has secured over 70 projects and the team has grown to 6 . From the early design stages we provide value working closely with our clients and designers, rather than as a traditional reactive engineering service. Our vast experience in Timber frame, SIPS and ICF means that ACS are the right choice for your project.

 

 

MEET OUR TEAM

David Gallagher
Technical Director & Structural Engineer

 

David attained an MEng in Civil Engineering Design and Management at Dundee University in 2006. During his career, he has obtained a wealth of experience working in the UK, Middle East and New Zealand working on a number of high profile projects before joining AC Structures as Technical Director.

After returning to the UK in 2012, David returned to the design office including 5 years working for Harley Haddow where he took the structural design lead on a wide range of projects from house extensions to exemplar Passivhaus research centres and hotel conversions of A-listed buildings. 

David joins the ACA team as Technical Director of ACS with the focus of complementing the existing high level architectural services provided with an aligned and coordinated structural support to provide Clients with an holistic design approach. Since joining ACS he has overseen the growth of the team to 6 and has become an SER Certifier.

David has recently undertaken his own self-build house extension where he lives with his wife Rachel and two boys Seamus and Douglas. David enjoys travelling, running and football. 

Allan Corfield
CEO & Chartered Architect

 

 

 Allan Corfield has been an RIBA Chartered Architect since 2006 and set up one of the top custom and self build architectural pracitecs AC Architects in 2009. He has overseen over 470 one off homes and leads a team of 24 designers.

He is an expert in eco home design and regularly speaks at conferences across the UK, speaking and writing for Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine.

It was Allan’s initial vision to create a design lead Stuctural Engineer business in 2020, he assists David Gallagher on the delivery of the strategic plan.

Allan married his partner Emma in 2014, and their first child – Flynn, was born in 2015, with little Ruairi completing the family in 2019.

Rod McMillan
Non-Exec Director

 

Rod joined the team in 2018 as Non-Executive Director to help in ACA’s strategic business development. Rod is experienced in helping business owners and leaders with strategy, people, organisation structure, finance and commercial problem resolution.

Along with 3 co-directors he performed a Management Buy-Out of an Electronic Office Supplies company, ISA International plc. ISA’s flotation on the full list of the London Stock Exchange followed 2 years later.

For the last 25 years Rod has worked as an independent Non-Executive Director of businesses across many different sectors, from international electronics manufacturing to food production to healthcare.

Elliot Taylor
Structural Engineer

 

Elliot studied Civil and Structural Engineering at The University of Aberdeen, graduating in 2020 with a BEng (Hons) having been passionate about structural engineering since a young age.

He joined ACS in 2021 as a Graduate Structural Engineer and is being mentored and supported at ACS in his journey to become a Chartered Structural Engineer. He has a keen interest in sustainable construction methods and modern building practices.

Outside of the office, Elliot spends his time in the gym, playing football or on the golf course. His other interests include travelling and beer tasting.

Kim McIntosh
Office Manager

 

Kim joined ACA as our Office Manager in 2013, and has become a key member of our team. Kim deals with the day to day running of the practice, as well as ACA client accounts. Kim has built up a wide range of experience, working in a variety of companies and positions.

Following experience as a secretary and personal assistant, she became project administrator in the UK product development group of Foxboro, an engineering company originating in the Massachusetts town of that name.

After a career-break while her children were young, Kim has worked for a number of small businesses, maintaining accounts and bookkeeping, whilst gaining experience in all aspects of supporting a small company.

In her spare time, Kim is interested in genealogy, dressmaking and embroidery.
